Cosmetic Asiaticosides Gotu Kola Extract Centella Asiatica Extract Powder

Centella grows in tropical swampy areas.The stems are slender, creeping stolons, green to reddish-green in color, connecting plants to each other. It has long-stalked, green, rounded apices which have smooth texture with palmately netted veins. The leaves are borne on pericladial petioles, around 2 cm (0.79 in). The rootstock consists of rhizomes, growing vertically down. They are creamish in color and covered with root hairs.

Centella asiatica extracts exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activities, most importantly antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticancer activities.  

Asiaticoside is a triterpene glycoside from the plant Centella asiatica, commonly used in wound healing. This activity is a result of stimulation of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis.

Function

• Anti-aging  

Centella asiana extract promotes collagen I and III synthesis, as well as mucoglycan secretion (such as sodium hyaluronate synthesis), increases skin moisture retention, and activates and rejuvenates skin cells.  Centella asiatica extract can activate fibroblast gene, enhance the vitality of skin basal cells, maintain skin elasticity and firmness, and smooth fine wrinkles on face.  

• The anti-inflammatory activity   

Terpenoids in centella asiatica extract can significantly increase the content of collagen and cell-layer fibronectin (fibronectin is widely involved in cell migration, adhesion, proliferation, hemostasis and skin tissue repair), stimulate the production of type I collagen that promotes scar maturation, and reduce the generation of inflammation.  In addition, centella asiatica extract can reduce the production of proinflammatory mediators (IL-1, MMP-1) and improve and repair the skin barrier function.

The triterpenoid saponins in the extract of Centella asiatica are hydrophilic sugar chains, mainly glucose and rhamnose, which can bind with water in the occluded layer, improve the epidermal barrier ability and enhance skin moisture.
